Philosophy and Methodology
Montessori Method was developed by Dr. Maria Montessori in the early 1900s. She is often referred to as ‘ahead of her time’. Montessori Method is a child-centered method of education that involve child-led activities referred to as ‘work’, classroom with children of varying age and teachers who encourage independence among their pupils.
The Montessori Method is based on two simple truths: the children must be respected, and that children spontaneously love learning. These principles and careful observation form a child-centered method that Montessori called ‘education for life’. Its goal is the finest development of the whole human being emotionally, intellectually, physically towards the nurturing of a peaceful, caring citizen. The Montessori prepared environment, honors the child, and the beauty, and order essential for him to work at his natural, individual, and optimal level. Carefully designed Montessori materials attract interest of the child while at the same time teaching an important, isolated concept for child’s discovery.
Children construct their own reality and understanding, initially through hands-on manipulation, internalize patterns and reach higher levels of abstraction. The integrated Montessori curriculum shows the child how every aspect of learning is connected and intertwined. Montessori teacher understand and guide the child without interfering in her natural ability to teach herself and become independent member of society.
Authentic Montessori
Dr. Montessori believed that children learn better when they are choosing what to learn, and this philosophy is present in Montessori classrooms today. A Montessori classroom likely looks different than what you are used to.
Things that make it unique include:

Various activity stations for children to choose from throughout the day.
Teachers moving between groups rather than standing at the front of the classroom.
A non-traditional grading system.
A focus on whole-child, social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development.
